Virginia research park, Israeli incubator form strategic alliance
February 6th, 2008 by David Schwartz under Tech Transfer

Start-ups looking to do business overseas — and incubators or technology parks looking for an injection of foreign dollars — should take note of a strategic alliance just announced between Xenia Venture Capital, a prominent Israeli tech incubator, and The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park and its newly formed Virginia Biosciences Commercialization Center (VBCC). The Virginia center — affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University — will help Xenia assist its companies in entering the U.S. market, said executive director Donna Edmonds. And according to Xenia CEO Anat Segal, his firm “is encouraging companies that wish to do business in the U.S. to approach the VBCC. We can and want to support later-stage companies that wish to develop a successful track record by operating from one of the main business hubs in the U.S.” The deal makes the Richmond-based research park the preferred location for Xenia’s companies, and Xenia hopes those start-ups will benefit from the park’s expertise, including the VBCC’s focus on helping bring “graduates” of incubator programs along to later stages of funding and commercialization.
