Database reveals VC deal terms, valuations

Finding deal terms and valuations as benchmarks for your VC negotiations has historically been a difficult task for TTOs, but it may have gotten easier with the release of the Private Equity Data Center, an online tool offered by Shreveport, LA-based VC Experts, Inc. The online database reveals specific comparables of venture capital investments in private U.S. companies, including the deal terms and valuations. The data is searchable by region, calendar quarter and business sector — for example, users can search for all bio-tech financings in New England in the second quarter of 2007. The results are based on regulatory filings rather than surveys, which the company says provides more accurate “comps” of the transactions. According to Joseph W. Bartlett, founder of VC Experts, the database is intended as a deal pricing benchmark tool as well as a research resource, and takes the guesswork out of determining “fair value” based on comparables. It doesn’t come cheap, however. A one-month subscription costs $325, and a 12-month subscription goes for $2,495. Go to: Private Equity Data Center and TechCrunch Forums
