Based on a series of corporate agreements announced last week, Universiti Sains Malaysia may be a school to watch in the Pacific Rim. USM signed eight agreements in conjunction with the launch of the school’s Science and Arts Innovation Space in a bid to stem the country’s brain drain, boost local innovation, and attract international collaboration. The agreements are in a variety of technology areas including nanotech, biotech, “green” technologies, and construction materials. The university signed MOUs with the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) to fund and incubate selected technologies, and separate MOUs with national and international firms for each individual project.
