Singapore-based Technology Transfer Network continues expansion, launches angel investment initiative
July 16th, 2008 by David Schwartz under Tech Transfer

The Technology Transfer Network (TTN) announced the addition of a new founding member, Singapore Management University (SMU), and added four other members as it continues its rapid growth since launching in February. The new members are the Larta Institute, a commercialization and tech transfer training and services organization; MaRS, a Canadian non-profit innovation center that promotes and supports research commercialization efforts; global communications company Motorola; and Imprimatur Capital, an international investment firm focusing on university-developed technologies. Along with the new members, TTN chairman Boon Swan Foo announced the launch of the Angel Investment Management (AIM) program, which is designed to facilitate creation of special interest angel networks that would invest in Singapore-based start-ups. Exploit Technologies, the tech transfer arm of Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), will establish and operate AIM with full-time resources within the TTN alliance, said Boon, who also serves as Exploit’s executive chairman. Lim Chuan Poh, chairman of A*STAR, said the additional members “will provide TTN with richer and more varied perspectives and insights that will further enhance and maximize the potential for the commercialization of research outcomes.” TTN members share best practices and work together to build strategic industry relationships. Core activities include IP cluster mapping, training and certification of TTO professionals, joint marketing and events, and technology advisory services. SMU joins seven other founding members, all Singapore-based universities or polytechnics. The four new affiliate members join the University of California-Irvine, CONNECT, Global CONNECT, and Technology Transfer Tactics, which joined last month. Go to: The Technology Transfer Network
