Tool kit offers models for research collaboration agreements

The UK government has launched a new web site containing a set of model research collaboration agreements. Called the Lambert Tool Kit for Collaborative Research and released by the UK Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, the site contains updated versions of five previously published model Research Collaboration Agreements (focused on one-to-one collaboration) and four new model Consortium Agreements (focused on multi-party arrangements), all with hypertext links to guidance notes. The site also includes a range of other materials, notably an iterative decision guide. The four new model Consortium Agreements use the same terminology and have the same structure as the Collaboration Agreements, but contain additional provisions to cover some of the complications that arise when more than two parties are involved. The decision guide consists of a series of questions to help you choose which of the five model research collaboration agreements most closely meets your requirements. The guidance notes are designed to help you understand the terms of the model agreements. Developers of the documents say they are not designed necessarily to maximize the commercial return to the universities, but to encourage university and industry collaboration and knowledge sharing using reasonable terms for both parties.
