New company, 2Market Information Inc., formed to acquire assets of Technology Transfer Tactics from BizWorld Inc. |
|
ATLANTA – David Schwartz, co-founder and CEO of Technology Transfer Tactics and its wide range of related products and services, has purchased the assets of the company from fellow co-founder Dr. Leslie Norins. Schwartz, a former Specialized Information Publishers Association (SIPA) Board member, and Norins, a member of the SIPA Hall of Fame, launched their venture in early 2007 with a single newsletter addressing the practical issues and challenges among professionals in the technology transfer field, which focuses on nurturing, protecting, and ultimately commercializing laboratory research conducted by scientists at universities, government labs, and other research institutions.
In the two-plus years since its inception, the company — with a global customer base in virtually every developed country — has rapidly grown to offer two newsletters and associated e-zines distributed to more than 200,000 professionals; a series of 24 annual audioconferences; a library of special reports; an intellectual property marketing service; and a collection of co-marketed products. The publications and other products are widely read and respected in the small but high-stakes research commercialization arena, where billions of research dollars go toward making many of the world’s scientific discoveries, which then must be cultivated, licensed or otherwise commercialized to bring their benefits to the public at large.
The assets of the company, which had been developed within BizWorld Inc., controlled by Norins, will become the basis for a new company, 2Market Information Inc., formed by Schwartz and based in Atlanta. According to Norins, he and his wife and partner Rainey have decided to semi-retire, but will continue to pursue other projects in specialized publishing from Naples, FL.
“David and I have been colleagues for more than 25 years, and I can’t imagine leaving the operation in better hands,” Norins commented. “We’ll be cheering from the sidelines.”
Schwartz, who served as CEO before the acquisition, plans to grow the company aggressively, despite the global economic slump. “We’re on track to increase sales in 2009 by nearly 50%, and we’ve identified a number of opportunities that will extend our footprint even further in this fascinating field, which is so central to innovation and economic prosperity worldwide,” he says. All company staff will remain on board, including Marketing Director Connie Austin, Distance Learning Director Deb Melillo, Web and Graphics Director Jason Norris, Sales Director Sara Henderson, and Circulation Manager Valeasia Walker.
Schwartz’s first newsletter job was as a staff writer for Norins’ first company, American Health Consultants. After selling AHC to Medical Economics in the mid-1980s, Norins went on launch Global Success Corp. and its Coding Institute, which was later sold to Eli Publications. Schwartz launched his own healthcare publishing firm, National Health Information, in 1994 and sold it to HcPro in 2006. It was at that point the two linked up for the latest venture.
Commenting on the sale, Schwartz noted the long association between the two co-founders made for an ideal acquisition. “Leslie could have shopped the company around, and more than likely would have garnered a better price for it. But he wanted me to continue what we started, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity. He and Rainey have been great partners, and I’m sure we’ll be keeping in close touch with each other. Knowing Leslie, he’ll soon be doing more in semi-retirement than most of us could handle in an 80-hour work week.”

U.K.’s AURIL (Association for University Research and Industry Links) Signs Agreement with U.S.’s Technology Transfer Tactics For Distribution of Continuing Professional Development Resources |
|
AURIL (Association for University Research and Industry Links), Europe’s largest organization for knowledge transfer professionals (a field also known as “technology transfer”), has signed a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding with Technology Transfer Tactics (TTT), a Florida-based publisher of continuing professional development content on the commercialization of university research.
The agreement highlights AURIL’s recognition that TTT-produced materials (newsletters, audioconferences, books) “can have educational value to knowledge transfer professionals,” and provides a mechanism for AURIL members to obtain these resources at discounted prices.
“We feel this formal arrangement with TTT will provide a wider range of practical, easily-accessible knowledge transfer information for our members,” said Dr. Phillip Graham, AURIL’s executive director. “It will also provide them financial savings in today’s stressed economy,” he added.
David Schwartz, TTT’s CEO, echoed the MoU in saying, “Recognizing that AURIL is one of the world’s leading organizations for knowledge transfer professionals, we’re delighted to make these information products available to AURIL members at a significant cost savings.”
Both groups will cooperate in publicizing this new arrangement to AURIL members.
Originally established in the 1980s, AURIL has over 1600 members, located primarily in the UK and Ireland, and is acknowledged as the largestknowledge transfer association for practitioners in organizations engaged in knowledge transfer.
TTT is a privately held information publishing company, founded in 2007 by David Schwartz and Dr. Leslie Norins. Their combined experience in scientific publishing exceeds 50 years. Its educational product line includes two monthly newsletters by subscription, two free weekly e-zines, and numerous audioconferences, special reports and books.
Both TTT and AURIL share the common objective of stimulating the rapid, effective transfer of knowledge and technologies between universities and research institutes and the commercial marketplace — and thereby into use by society. This process is facilitated by specialized staff who convert research discoveries into practical applications, often involving the return of licensing royalties back to inventors and to universities for further re-investment.

New Newsletter Bolsters Intellectual Property Marketing |
|
Naples, FL. The first and only monthly newsletter devoted exclusively to improving the marketing of intellectual property (IP) was launched today by 2Market Information, Inc. Each issue of Intellectual Property Marketing Advisor (IPMA) focuses on better marketing of valuable but yet-unlicensed IP held by universities, research institutes, and government labs.
Says publisher Leslie C. Norins, MD, PhD: “This monthly guidance will help spur the commercialization of innovations and other IP. The need is greatest in the academic and government research sectors. Their budgets are under pressure. But they’ve got cabinets full of invention disclosures and patented innovations just gathering dust-and bringing in no royalties. More effective, aggressive marketing is the ‘missing link’ in the commercialization chain that will bring in more licenses, and more royalty revenue.”
Although millions of research dollars are spent developing innovations in university and government labs, only a tiny fraction ever make it to the marketplace. A big part of the reason, Norins asserts, is that commercialization staff don’t have the marketing experience and know-how to find and attract IP buyers. “Plus, they’re overloaded with other duties”, he adds.
“That where IPMA comes in,” says Executive Editor and CEO David Schwartz. “We apply a down-to-earth, practical formula that we’ve perfected over 30 years in specialized publishing. We dig up expert, real-world advice, best practices, and successful case studies for our subscribers — and show them how to put these tactics to work in their organizations.” Key ingredients are: identifying and contacting all logical prospects, selecting and creating the optimal mix of sales tactics and tools, diligent followup, and getting the deals closed favorably.
A complimentary copy of the inaugural issue is available for review by e-mail request to sample@IPmarketingadvisor.com, or online at www.IPmarketingadvisor.com. There is no cost or obligation. One-year (12 issue) subscriptions are offered at the Introductory Rate of $297 — a $100 savings off the regular price. Its companion free weekly e-zine, IP Marketing e-News, is also available.
2Market Information, Inc is a global publisher which also produces the pioneering monthly newsletter Technology Transfer Tactics and the free weekly e-zine, Tech Transfer e-News, which is distributed to a worldwide audience of 140,000. For a free sample copy of either, go to www.technologytransfertactics.com.
